Nor`Easter 2007 by the LAN Party Association of New England
Open Gaming
In my opinion, one of the most important times of any and all LAN Parties is the Open Gaming aspect between tournaments and other just for fun gigs. This has always had a great impact on the joys or lack there of each LAN Party has brought with them. LPANE has some work to do here to fill public servers and get larger open gaming battles. However, overall, the public servers were, on average, being populated rather decently.
Open Gaming is one of the few defining moments of a LAN Party. As a LAN Party Host myself, I have had the most fun when getting gamers together and attempting to die as much as possible (did I say die?). With that in mind, LPANE did a great job keeping the more popular game servers running. Those attending also threw their two cents in by running different modifications and other games not provided by LPANE.
Security
A benefit of LPANE is their focus on security (granted, you are required to sign a waiver removing any liability). This was largely noticeable as a Staff member was always present at the entrance checking Equipment and Gamers in and out during the event. To most, theft was of little concern for the most precious parts of systems. I congratulate LPANE for making a large effort for checking equipment in and out of the LAN.
Final Thoughts
Overall, LPANE's 3rd Annual Nor’easter was a great success for all those who attended, gamers and sponsors alike. Improvements on the network plan, thirst quenching, and providing LAN Addict with swag were needed. These, however, were easily overshadowed by the rest of the event. Organization was a huge plus, registration was helpful, and security of equipment was an added perk. Sponsors helped out and provided enough prizes to pack the tables and allow for a great weekend of gaming. We at LAN Addict will be looking out for all future events of the LAN Party Association of New England (and they want to shout out a big thank you to their sponsors, partners, and the Shriner’s who allowed for a great LAN Party!).
