When it comes to vanity, there are few cases that go farther than an acrylic case. The ability to view every part of a system in detail, without having to take off a case door is the ultimate statement of computer cool. However, these cases require much more maintenance than your standard beige box.
First Impressions:
Personally, I'm not a fan of acrylic cases. Their track record is none too convincing to me. The trade off between having an amazing looking case versus having a sturdier, but still cool-looking, case is important to me. I like to have looks, but I don't want to trade performance for those looks. So, today we have Sunbeamtech's Clear Acrylic Case, and the UV reactive model none the less! The case comes lovingly packed in an approximately 20in x 20in x 3in box. “But wait!” I hear you say, "that's awfully small and thin for a case!" Well, there is some assembly required.
Assembling the Case:
Assembly is a breeze to anyone who can look at a photo and identify letters. Reading the instruction booklet is hardly necessary, as the photos are detailed enough to assemble the case with. Personally, it took me a little over two hours to complete the work. Construction will go faster if you don't lose the screws or go get a bowl of ice cream while doing it.
The kit comes with everything you need to build the case. It even comes with a pair of cotton gloves to keep your creation fingerprint free throughout its building. The gloves are perfect for the small hands of a 3-year-old. To remedy this, I used the gloves as pincers and after that got too tedious, I just made sure my hands were very dry and clean. As a personal note, you should not tighten the screws until after you are done with getting all the parts together as some parts will need to be adjusted several times to get the screw holes lined up.
The case also comes with just one fan grill, which is supposed to be used for the patented 'Core Fan Technology'. This is cool, I guess, if you don't have small animals or toes that could find their way into the case. Also, there is no guard for the top 80mm fan port, and with no fan included, its a nice big 'O' hole for inviting a disastrous pencil, pen, or other foreign object into your sweet looking system.
Are these problems? Well, no, not really. Sunbeamtech probably thinks that people who are buying this case are not going to be sitting on it, throwing around, or letting pencils fall into it, and that these people are going to have extra fans and grills on hand, or are just planning on buying them along with the case.
