Installation went the same as most power supply installations go. It comes with case screws and fitted nicely into my case. I ran into some problems with the cables, though. The power leads are so long that I ended up having huge wads of excess cable just sitting around and impeding air flow within the case. It should be noted that users with medium to small cases may want to look elsewhere for their power needs. This struck me as a little odd, since I consider my case to be fairly large. The power leads running from box to plug are XXin long. Which, is actually longer than my case is tall! The Nextherm also has a separate Molex connector for using with a Nextherm case air-conditioning unit like the one in NEXTHERM ‘s CR44 air-conditioned case.
Testing:
To generate load I did the following:
Ripped a music CD to a .mp3 format,
Burned another CD in a separate optical drive,
Ran Folding At Home
SiSandra CPU Burnin Utility
3DMark05 with game tests in a loop
Copying files between all hard drives simultaneously.
Game tests were conducted by running the following games for at least 1 hour:
Battlefield 2
Half Life 2
Battle Front 2
Voltage
Idle
Load
12
11.93
11.94
5
5.10
5.11
3.3
3.33
3.33
Obviously, as you can see, this is a unit designed and built for long running server environment where a computer could be up for weeks or months before having to be restarted. Its voltage accuracy is very impressive, only changing buy a hundredth of a volt, witch is well within the range of acceptable error.
It also excelled in the game tests, running Battlefield 2, Half Life2, and Battlefront 2, again, with no change in readings! Quite impressive.
