When opening the package the XG Magnum came in, I noticed that the unit is fairly heavy, this is because of the copper heatsink inside that can be seen thought the vents in the unit’s chassis. The unit is designed for maximum air flow over the heatsink following the typically style of silent/fanless power supplies, with a radiator block that extends the units heatsink outside of the case for heat dissipation to the cooler air outside of the computer.
The unit contains a temperature controlled fan, but even in the 85°F testing environment, the supply was still barely audible over the test systems other fans and drives. The unit feels very sturdy and sports a flashy metallic textured paint job over its aluminum chassis that with its rounded edges gives it a kind of streamlined look. There is also a rear LCD panel for monitoring voltage, watts, and temperature that adds a blue glow to the system.
On the front of the unit there is a bank of LED voltage activity lights that let you know which voltages are being used. Another cool feature of the Magnum is its fully modular cable system which allows you to use only the cables you need. Thanks to Kali at MGE for sending the Magnum power supply to review.
