Sunbeam makes all kinds of things for your PC. From cases and power supplies to heatsinks and lighting, Sunbeam has something for everyone. So, not wanting to rest on their laurels, they've decided to branch out into the very competitive input device market. That brings us to the subject of today's review, the EL-KB-07BK Pro-Series Lite Up Keyboard. I'd like to thank Sunbeam for providing the sample used in this review.
Overview
The Sunbeam Pro-Series Lite Up Keyboard is a full-size PS/2 keyboard with 133 keys. It also has a whole bunch of shortcut buttons, which we'll discuss shortly. The Lite Up part of the Keyboard is accomplished using an EL film installed underneath the translucent white keys. While there is no dimmer switch, you can turn the lighting on or off with the Scroll Lock key. Personally, I'd rather have had a dedicated switch that maintained the state of the lighting between reboots, but I'm fussy that way. ;-)
The Sunbeam Pro-Series Lite Up Keyboard doesn't come with a lot of extras. The included software is OK, but not necessary, although the drivers that are also included on the CD will be welcomed by those folks running older versions of the Windows operating system. The User Manual does a very good job of explaining what the function is for each shortcut button. The only one it comes up short on is the EL on/off one. It does not tell you that it is located on the Scroll Lock key. I spent quite some time looking for that before I found it!
