Thermaltake Big Typhoon Universal CPU Heatsink
Introduction

Introduction

Thermaltake has been making cooling products for CPUs since 2000. Their first heatsink was the Golden Orb for the Pentium III. The Golden Orb went on to sell two million units world wide and established Thermaltake as a force to be reconned with in the PC cooling industry. A short five years later and we see Thermaltake making not only CPU coolers (both air and water), but power supplies, PC cases, fans, and video card coolers, as well as unique computer accessories. Today, I'll be looking at one of Thermaltake's latest coolers, the Big Typhoon. I'd like to give a big, "Thank you!" to Annie at Thermaltake for providing the sample used in this review.

The Packaging

Let's take a look at just what you should see when you walk into your local Thermaltake-selling computer shop and ask for the Big Typhoon.

That 120mm fan sure grabs your attention, doesn't it? Still, as attractive a package as this is, it really doesn't tell you a whole lot about the cooler inside, does it?

Here are the specifications for the Big Typhoon, straight from Thermaltake's website:

The one thing that really jumped out at me the first time I saw these specs was the weight of this heatsink: 813 grams! That is just over 1.75 pounds! That is a lot of weight to be hanging off of your motherboard, especially when that weight is suspended from your CPU socket.
