CaseBuy EZ Power Supply Tester
Introduction

Introduction

If you've been building your own PCs for a while, you've probably got a lot of parts left from previous upgrades. Some of those parts are bound to be power supplies. Wouldn't it be great if there was a quick and easy way to tell if the PSU you just pulled out of the closet for the first time in four or five years was alive or dead, without having to hook it up to a PC? Well, there is! CaseBuy has created the EZ Power Supply Tester for just such testing. I'd like to thank Donald at CaseBuy for providing the sample used in this review.

The EZ Power Supply Tester

Let's take a little closer look at the EZ Power Supply Tester itself.

Not a whole lot to it, is there. Basically, you plug the 20-pin connector into one side. If all the LEDs come on, you're getting power on all of the rails. You don't know how much power you're getting, but you do know that you're getting something.

I had managed to pretty well ruin my OCZ PowerStream PSU in a little mishap last summer that also killed two sticks of OCZ's PC3500 DDR and a motherboard. No matter what I do to try and adjust the +12V rail, it stays at 14V. To CaseBuy's EZ Power Supply Tester, that's just fine. To any motherboard I might think of connecting this PSU to, it is anything but fine!

Conclusion

CaseBuy's EZ Power Supply Tester is very easy to use and it will tell you if you are getting power on a rail. Just don't expect it to do any more than that. This little gadget can save you a lot of time by weeding out dead power supplies, but you'll want to have a multimeter handy to make sure that you're getting the right amount of power from your rails before you use the PSU you're testing.
