LTB USB Pro 5.1 Headphone Set
Testing & Conclusion

Driver Installation

In order to use the LTB USB Pro 5.1 Headphone Set you'll need to install the drivers that come on the CD. This is a straight-forward process, just like any other driver install. There is a reboot required in order to set the headphones as the default sound device in Windows.

Control Panel

Once your PC comes back up after the driver install is complete, you'll have an additional icon in your System Tray to give you quick access to the Control Panel applet for configuring the LTB USB Pro 5.1 Headphone Set.

Testing

Unlike a lot of PC hardware, testing headphones and speakers is very subjective. There are no benchmark numbers to use in comparing one set of headphones to another, no pictures to look at that give you something to point at and say, "See, this one is much better than that one!" However, if the sound coming from the headphones or speakers is pure crap, it's pretty obvious. ;-)

I spent a long time listening to CDs, MP3s, watching DVDs, and playing games. Rough assignment, I know. I played things with the volume just barely on to as loud as I could take the volume. At volumes that didn't have me fearing for additional hearing loss (about straight up on the volume knob in the Control Panel) I experienced no degredation in sound quality. There was a surprisingly strong bass with an equally clear treble throughout. Once you get past 'high noon' on the volume knob things get pretty muddy pretty quickly. Overall, I was very impressed with the fidelity of the sound coming from the headphones.

Conclusion

The LTB USB Pro 5.1 Headphone Set would make a great addition to any LAN gamer's travelling rig! The detachable microphone is a big plus, too! It would also do quite as the primary sound source on many home systems, especially if you're space limited. The sound you get from them is really remarkable, considering that they have their own AC97 audio decoder and run strictly off of a USB port. I can easily recommend these headphones to anyone looking for a personal sound solution for their PC!

For those of you that have already purchased a premium sound card, LTB is working on a set of headphones that will use it. They even have a wireless headphone set in the works! If the upcoming headphone sets work as well as the USB Pro 5.1 Headphone Set, LTB is going to be a force to be reckoned with!
