Three-Way Gaming Mouse Showdown
Conclusion

Conclusion

I played a lot of games for a lot of hours with all three mice connected to my main rig at the same time. USB is really cool sometimes, isn't it? ;-) I used all of the mice on Razer's eXactMat, using the speed side exclusively. I need all the help I can get when it comes to shooters! Anyway, here's my final verdict.

The winner of the Three-Way Gaming Mouse Showdown is the Razer Viper!

I found, and continue to find, the Razer Viper the most responsive and easiest to control of the three mice. The extra large buttons make it hard to not get a shot off and the 1000dpi resolution of the mouse makes it easy to get the crosshair where you want it. Now, if it could just correct my aim a bit, I'd be all set to take on all comers! Well, maybe not...

The only thing that needs to be changed on the Viper is the feet. There need to be four of them or the single foot in the back needs to be much larger. I feel a definite tilt when moving rapidly from side to side with the Viper. It doesn't affect the accuracy of the mouse, but it always has me glancing over to make sure I haven't left the mouse pad.

The Razer Viper is available at many stores, such as NewEgg, for around $45.

The TerraTec Mystify Mamba was a fairly close second. If something could be done about the placement of the side buttons and the scalloped portion of the body, it would be a tougher decision for me to make. I tend to grip the mouse near the bottom, just above the mouse pad and that is probably why I was constantly clicking the side buttons when I didn't mean to. The shape of the Mystify Mamba definitely takes getting used to and I may never be fully comfortable with it. I'm almost tempted to try taking the guts of the Mamba out and putting them into an old IntelliMouse Optical I have laying around here. That might be the perfect combination for me.

I looked for an hour, but I could not find a store that carried the Mystify Mamba. If anyone knows where one can be purchased, please contact me so that I can include that information in this Showdown.

The MonsterGecko PistolMouse FPS is a wonderful novelty mouse and would be good for games that only need to use the left mouse button. For any game, or application for that matter, that requires both mouse buttons and accurate scrolling, this is not the mouse to use. I really wanted to like this mouse, but the brutal reality is that it doesn't work well for gaming.

The PistolMouse FPS can be purchased directly from MonsterGecko or from EBGames for $39.99.
