Saitek PC Gaming Keyboard
Saitek Smart Technology Software

Saitek Smart Technology Software

Saitek's Smart Technology software is what gives the PC Gaming Keyboard its advantage. The software let's you map up to 27 keys and key combinations to a single key on the Command Pad. This is thanks to the nine numbered keys and the two 'shift' buttons, which are labelled Mode A and Mode B.

When you first start the software, you're given a choice as to which Saitek device you'd like to work with. If you only have one Saitek device installed, the choice will be easy. Saitek uses this software for many of their devices, which will cut down greatly on what little learning curve there is when I review the joystick later. ;-)

Once inside the Profile Editor portion of the Saitek Smart Technology software you're given a fully rendered 3D view of the device you are working with. To add a key mapping, simply click on the key in the picture or click in the space on the right that corresponds to the key you're mapping to, press the key(s) on the keyboard you wish mapped, then click on the green check mark to indicate you're finished. If you're in a shifted mode (Mode A or Mode B), the bar at the top of the picture frame will tell you. Usually, the Mode button will be blue in the image, but not always, as I discovered.

One of the nifty little things I found in the SST software is that you can rotate the device model any way you want! While this isn't a big deal for the Command Pad, it will be for a joystick with many buttons all over it!
