We've surely all heard of Bluetooth at one point or another being touted to be able to do everything and yet a little bit more. Surely this is the new wireless technology for short range devices as the range and compatibility are highly desired. For those of you who aren't to sure what exactly the Bluetooth technology is, we have a detailed article here for your pleasure. For those not in the mood to read up on the details of this wireless technology here's a short clip summing up the Bluetooth Technology.
Bluetooth was envisioned by Ericsson, and later created with the help of other companies such as IBM, Intel, Nokia, and Toshiba, who intended to support and promote this new wireless standard. The de facto standard they created allows numerous devices from different companies to interact seamlessly. The name "Bluetooth", given by Ericsson, the primary developer of the technology, comes from the Denmark King, Harald Bluetooth, who united Denmark and Norway around 900AD.
Ideally, Bluetooth would connect all the electronic data oriented devices in your home into a Personal Area Network (PAN). Your Computer, PDA, mobile phone, stereo, computer peripherals, and others would all be interconnected, and could exchange data cooperatively as needed. For example, your Bluetooth enabled computer receives an email, which it wirelessly forwards to your PDA or mobile phone. In another example, your computer receives a music file from a Bluetooth external modem, and then streams that music file to your Bluetooth home stereo. Some Bluetooth stereos could even play music streamed directly from the Internet, on demand.
In addition to your own PAN, roaming services can be used while traveling from one area to another. On the road, your Bluetooth MP3 player streams music to your car stereo while your PDA automatically pays for fuel at a Bluetooth enabled gas station. When entering an office or other building, any news or messages can be transmitted to your PDA or mobile phone. The possibilities of interaction are literally endless.
As you probably know this now broadens the possibility of this already excellent mouse by adding not only the Bluetooth range and versatility but also a Bluetooth base station so you can quickly and easily connect to your cellular phone, a wireless headset, pda, or other Bluetooth enabled consumer products. This was one feature we wanted to test out for ourselves. As more and more products are becoming readily available for Bluetooth the capabilities of this wireless technology continues to expand. For instance not only can you use a Wireless Headset with your cellular phone for hands free conversations, but you can also walk into your office and record audio files, chat with friends online or our favorite, communicate with those airhead teammates that are surely making you lose in games with Voice Over IP support such as Unreal Tournament, and Half-Life.
