Speaking of fans, Thermalright has a very clever way of attaching fans to the SLK-800U. Rather than using screws to hold the fans onto the heatsink, Thermalright employs a clip to secure the fan to the heatsink. The SLK-800U comes with two sets of clips. One set is for 80mm fans. The other set is for 60mm fans. There are also two sets of holes for the fan clips. The lower set is for a standard 25mm tall fan while the upper set allows you to use a 38mm tall fan, should you be so inclined.
I opted to use the standard socket 478 mounting bracket to install the SLK-800U rather than uninstalling it and then installing the back plate that came with the heatsink. This was easily accomplished using parts that were included with the SLK-800U. Four screws and a couple of fan clips later, I was ready to put the SLK-800U to work.
