Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader (PC Game)
Character Creation

Race

Character creation in Lionheart is fairly simple. If you've played Fallout or Arcanum it is very much like the character creation in either of those games. You start by choosing a race for your character. Your choice of race determines your beginning ability scores and the number of points you have to spend on increasing them. There are four races to choose from in Lionheart, each with advantages and disadvantages.

Purebloods These are people from families whose bloodlines have remained untouched by either magic or the spirits released during the Disjunction. They make up a majority of the population in Europe. Purebloods typically control most of the politics as well as most of the countries.
Demokin Demokin are people whose families have been touched by an impish or fiendish spirit. They show small signs of having been touched by these spirits, such as small horns or pointed ears. These signs are usually easy to hide from casual observation. Demokin have a stronger affinity for magic than Purebloods.
Sylvant Sylvants come from bloodlines touched by an elemental spirit. While they are usually weaker physically than the other races their heightened ability to wield magic easily makes up for this. Due to their highly magical nature, Sylvants are not able to pass among Purebloods undetected.
Feralkin Feralkins have been touched by an animal spirit. They are physically strong and usually have an obvious sign of their animal spirit nature, such as claws or fur. They also have a natural resistance to magic.

While race affects your beginning attribute scores and the number of points you get to spend to increase those attributes, it really doesn't matter. If you add up the starting attribute scores and additional points for each race you get the same total for each one! That means that there is no one race that is better than any other race in terms of final attribute scores. This way, you can create the type of character you want to play without worrying about having some type of inherent disadvantage right from the start.

Traits

Once a race has been chosen a player may then choose take a Trait for their character. Traits have a good side and a bad side to them. Traits are also optional and do not have to be taken for your character. An example of this is the Fast Metabolism trait. A character with the Fast Metabolism trait heals faster than others, but is also more susceptible to disease and poison. You may select up to two traits when creating your character.

Racial Traits

All characters other than Purebloods must take a racial trait during character creation. There are different racial traits for each race. Some of the Demokin traits will make it very obvious that your character has been touched by a spirit while all of the Sylvant and Feralkin traits make it impossible for your character to pass as a Pureblood.

Skills

Once you have generated your stats and chosen any traits and/or racial traits it's time to start fleshing out your characters abilities by choosing your starting skills. Most skills have a base score determined by one or more of your attributes. There are a few skills that have no base score, they must have skill points spent on them if you wish to use that particular skill at all. Needless to say, the more points you put into a skill the better your chance for success when using that skill.
