Seasonic Super Tornado Power Supply Unit
Tornado Explained

Tornado Explained

So, just what is this Smart & Silent Fan Control and how does it make this power supply quieter? Seasonic has a few graphs that show how their fan control generates less noise. Basically, it's a temperature controlled fan. The warmer it gets, the higher the RPMs of the fan. As things cool off, the fan slows down.

Quiet is all well and good, but where does the 'Tornado' part of the name come into play? Well, first of all the Seasonic Super Tornado uses a 120mm fan rather than the 80mm fans on most PSUs. A bigger fan doesn't have to spin as quickly to move a larger volume of air. This not only reduces the noise, it also increases the airflow through the PSU.

A fan that can move tons of air won't due you any good if there isn't anywhere for the air to go. That seems like a very obvious statement and it is. However, when you look at how much space there is for moving air through the typical PSU all you see are narrow slots. What does this have to do with the Seasonic Super Tornado? Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll show you.
